Milan, Italy is Full of Color
If you’ve been to Siena, terra cotta orange dominates the landscape—beautiful in its own way. Milan, Italy seems coated with green. In springtime, shades of green are everywhere. Willows and lilacs are in full bloom. Window boxes burst with yellow or fuchsia. Maybe the bougainvillea is shouting spring, spring, spring! All manner of shrubs are in bud. Cypress trees run arrow-straight rows down boulevards.
The foliage against the backdrop of buildings green, orange, yellow, pink, brown, blue … is a delightful mix uplighting and joyful.
On a train, we stare at an entire field full of yellow—what is it? An herb? A flower? Mustard in bloom? There’s another and another. Delight as planted sunshine!
The picture is Rapallo Castle. It was taken the year the Italians stretched a red carpet from here to Portofino. It was fun walking segments of it, if not the entire length in one swoop. Rapallo is underrated next to its snazzy neighbors, Portofino and Camogli. But don’t skip it.
