I love my stylist.

Seriously. Dawn, the owner of Salon Sartori, is something else!
Not only has she figured out how to contend with me, she also makes my hair look good. Dawn’s cuts last a long time. That makes a good hair stylist to me. For me!
She’s entertaining—a young woman actively involved in her life, in life, volunteering (Make a Wish), living in big circles.
I’m Steadfastly Avoiding My Hair Stylist
It’s not her fault. Sigh. It’s all on me.
I’m there again. At that point with my hair where I can’t decide what to do with it. It’s past my shoulders. Finally. And all I can think about is whacking it off like I did two years ago. I can finally pull it into a pony tail to keep it out of the way when I’m active. Then I think, gosh, it was so cute when it was chin length.
Quick—girlfriends, cousins, sisters—hide from me. I’m about to do that thing again where I send you a series of photos and have you pick which one you like best. Sadly, I don’t keep track every time I ask you to do this, so I don’t know if you pick the same photo each time.
I’ve had a love hate relationship with my hair since I was a child. As the only redhead in a family of full of brunettes, coal-blacks and a couple of understandable blondes, I stood out when little girls really want to blend in. Both sisters had beautiful black hair.
We’re Lucky to have Hair Stylists these Days
We were born before hair products and hair stylist. Yes, there were beauticians, but those ladies were for ladies. Not kids with problem hair.
We wonder why Mom didn’t shave Jackie’s uncontrollable crazy curls. Could have been an option over trying to comb it every day. Still, it was black and Jackie matched the family and most of the kids in the neighborhood.
There I was with board straight, red hair. Yikes!
I got asked so many times, Where’d you get that beautiful red hair?
How does a little kid answer a question like that?
Once, I heard a parent quip, “From the milkman.” Within the confines of our family the adults thought that was funny. But the one time I answered a waitress that way in a crowded restaurant, I thought my Mother would never come out from under the table.
At five, who knew?
Somewhere in my late teens, hair halfway down my back for the second time, I decided to embrace my red-hair and how it went with my freckles. What the heck, I gave in. There were some heavenly years of enjoyment until I turned 39.
One too many wisecracks from men (some who didn’t even have hair!) about the white hairs creeping into the red made me start down the ever-dooming color-path. When will I quit?
Somewhere between then and now, my hair got out of control. Is it the coloring? Being post-menopausal? Did my hair get a mind of its own? Short, long—it doesn’t matter. My hair does what it wants to do every day.
I give up!
My best intentions don’t control it and neither does having an excellent haircut. Uncle D always—no matter what state my hair is in—asks, “Can’t you do something with that hair?” My husband likes it all the time. He’s no help.
Back to Dawn, the hair stylist from whom I hide.
I’ve given her free rein and she’s succeeded.
Photo I’ve carted in? She’s done a good match.
I’ve known what I wanted or didn’t care what I get.
Presently, I’m hovering between those two states and indecisiveness does not sit well with me. While I understand middle ground, compromise, and fence riding, I’d almost always rather be in one pasture or the other.
So Dawn, dear Dawn. I’m hiding.
Odds are by the time you see me again, I’ll be in a frightening state of Medusa-like locks. Be ready. Look out.
Maybe take a vacation.

I like #2 & #3….I miss you
Thanks for the input, Zennifer. Well come on over next month and go with me when I see Dawn for a snip, snip!
Why didn’t you include that blog picture in the mix, anyway? It’s an adorable hair cut, too. Dawn goes great work…too bad I’m so far away!
I figure everyone is sick of looking at it!
I’M HERE!!!!! I know you have been talking about me!!! If you would like my honest opinion- and I know you do, I love 3. Your skin looks better with a more red color. #1 doesn’t even look like you, at all! #2 is ok, I think I may not like the color in that one…that cut needs a funkier color. #3 is nice because the color is FABULOUS and the cut is long enough to be pulled back, but short enough to still look professional and be easy to manage. They lack of weight and more layers let the curl come out more. #4 Is how I believe I met you. Reminds me of a traveling hippie hairstyle(in a totally loving way) Very organic. #5 is something fun to do when you have extra time and want to go a few days without styling. Blowouts tend to look better 2-3 days in anyways! #6 is more fun than #7, but 7 ages you too much. SOOOOO in my professional opinion, for now, I would trim the lenght, maybe add a few more layers to change it up, and maybe, if you need a little more change, do something a little more fun with the color! 🙂 You know I’m always game for that! Don’t stay away too long! I miss our visits!
I sure have been talking about you! Glad that your comment gives folks a link to your Facebook page so my local friends can find you.
This comment is exactly why I love you to pieces.
Yes, #4 was my crazy hippie picture–that was from the Italy trip in 07 with Seester. That fall, after cutting it for months by myself, I walked into the salon and asked you: Can you do something with this hair without making me look __________. Fill in the blank with whatever was bugging me at the time!
So #3 is the consensus! Get ready for the next appointment, dear Dawn, to fix me up like that again. You’re right on all the highpoints of what that cut will do. It’s a little more curly than the blog photo–which is also one of your cuts.
Maybe we’ll replace that stuffy Rose-in-suit-picture with the new one you give me when I see you (ahem) next month!
#3 is my choice and love the color in #3 and #7. I have red hair envy ya know, I get red highlights but it’s not the same as having red hair. You look like your seester in #1; I thought you posted the wrong picture.
3 seems to be the consensus.
All my cousins should indulge in a few red highlights!
Really? On 1? Seester–check it out.
I vote for #3. Your hair is gorgeous no matter what but in my opinion # 3 looks very professional. Love your locks no matter what the length.
Thanks from my other favorite stylist!
You’re sweet to say that–if only the original color had lasted twenty more years!
PS John liked #3 also.
Tell him, thanks, man.
I do love #3 and the color of #7. You do look like Mom! Which is quite funny since I’ve never thought any of us looked like Mom. Talk about hair having a mind of its own….do I know about that or what? I am going to have a relaxing treatment for summer…I think. You are beautiful now matter what length your hair!
Flip back to the photo on the home page of this site–you have crazy hair there! Oh curly one, I totally get having the relaxer done for the summer. Let those curls take a break.
Aw, shucks.
#3 is my choice since it’s how I’ve seen you the longest. Don’t see the short sitting well with you or yikes, the long locks!! One thought – going on vacation what will be most convenient and less hot and hassle………..? OX
I think I’ll continue to avoid Dawn (ahem, she hasn’t weighed in yet on this whole thing!) until post upcoming trip. Specifically for that whole long-hair cup and out of the way for now. After though…3 sounds like a winner from everyone and was one of my favorite cuts!
